| LanLicenser |
|
An integrated inventory and metering solution for
your computer systems. Identify and control what
software is installed and where, determine what
software is being used, by whom and when. Monitor
and manage your software assets to assist with your
licence compliance, budgeting and software
maintenance requirements |
LanLicenser Inventory
LanLicenser's inventory component collects and analyses
software information from your workstations. By default
inventory takes place automatically once the client agent is
deployed. It can also be scheduled as required. The
inventory information can be viewed online or via the
reporting facility.
LanLicenser software inventory provides the following
information:
- Software Publisher
- Software file information such as name, size, date, path,
version
- Whether the application is an individual application or
part of a suite
- Software inventory information on both servers and
workstations
- Number of copies of each application installed
- Inventory can be run remotely within the network |
LanLicenser Monitoring
LanLicenser tracks all
applications running on the network whether on file servers,
Citrix Servers, Terminal Servers, client workstations, or
even floppies and CDs at the workstations. LanLicenser also
automatically detects all new products being run on a client
computer and can ensure that unauthorised applications are
never run again. |
LanLicenser Reporting
Software asset management
products can yield volumes of information that leave the
administrator confused about what to do with this data.
LanLicenser has been designed with cost optimization in
mind. The predefined reports answer questions that IT
managers often ask themselves, and allow the latter to
undertake accurately targeted cost-optimization initiatives
supported by factual data. |

LanLicenser
Scalability
LanLicenser has been designed
from the ground up to scale to very large organizations
(20,000+ workstations). |
LanLicenser Integration
LanLicenser is fully compatible
with most leading vendors’ Software Asset
Management/Inventory solutions such as Tivoli Enterprise
Manager, HP OpenView, Peregrine AssetCenter, through one of
the LanLicenser report gateways. This allows metering and
Inventory information to be combined into one report than
can be used, for example, to identify internal applications
or software products that can be retired.
Because LanLicenser uses industry-standard relational
databases like Microsoft SQL Server, it is very easy to
import data such as user and cost centre information from
other systems and export usage data for cost allocation
purposes for example. These integration capabilities make
LanLicenser very valuable to large organisations for which
replacing existing systems is often a costly and risky
option.
LanLicenser supports both TCP/IP and Named Pipes as possible
communication protocols between the LanLicenser client and
it's Software Metering Server. This enables LanLicenser to
operate in a wide range of network environments.
All LanLicenser events (e.g. client denials, low license
count etc.) can be sent to the NT event log. This makes a
'one-stop' event log available to the administrator that
gives access to LanLicenser and NT events simultaneously.
Using third party alerting software, the administrator can
get e-mail or pager alerts from LanLicenser events. |
LanLicenser
Administration
The LanLicenser user interface has been redesigned using the
Microsoft management Console (MMC) framework. This not only
makes administration tasks easier, but also facilitates the
integration of the LanLicenser user interface with other
system management tools' user interface. It requires minimal
training and can be operated by non-IT staff. The Getting
Started Taskpad allows the operator to see all essential
functions at a glance
In large organisations the administration of products and
licenses can be easily decentralised and LanLicenser can be
configured to monitor essential software only, thus
requiring minimal administration |

Software Asset Management |
|
You
work hard to build a strong and
positive reputation for your
company—don’t let it be tarnished
due to poor software management.
Software management is a critical
responsibility that helps every
organisation determine needed
software resources and protects them
against unauthorised software use.
Weak software management strategies
can leave you susceptible to
software piracy, which in turn can
lead to legal prosecution, large
fines, and public embarrassment. |
